Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Today there are so many people that are popping pills to find that kind of peace that Jesus Christ offers. And still many can’t find it no matter how many pills they pop or how much they drink. We hear of the morgues filled with broken souls that couldn’t find peace in their lives. We see what we think are people leading and living successful lives to later find out that they lived in a glass house just waiting for it to collapse.
The only real peace you can find is through Jesus Christ. It’s nothing that’s offered in a prescription even though many doctors are now saying those living with a Christ-filled life live more abundantly in every area of their lives. The disasters that hit them they’re able to overcome them through faith and their church body. It really isn’t a kept secret that the gift of salvation comes along with many gifts including peace. I’m encouraging you today to open the precious gift of salvation and you will be amazed at the other gifts that start pouring out seen and unseen. We have such a great God that faced all the challenges in life that we face.
But I have good news for you he won at the cross. Not only did he die for the forgiveness of sins, but he freed those who are in captivity by their own guilt or condemnation. Jesus Won! Praise God! He is Lord of all! Christ the cornerstone, when darkness comes. He is the cornerstone shining his light upon us. He offers us a way out of depression and anxiety.
When I worked for hospice many years ago we would talk about it in our interdisciplinary meetings how our patients with faith seemed to suffer less. It was almost as if they had a protective shield around them where the enemy couldn’t get through. I would even go in and read the Bible to some of my patients. I even had a son of another belief that refused for me to read the bible to his dad. He begged me towards the end to read because his dad was suffering so much. His sheets became blades of sharp grass against his skin. He cried out in agony. Shortly after I started reading to him he finally passed in a peaceful death. You can call it Divine intervention but I believe in the end the dying Muslim man found peace in God. It was when two faiths came together and saw the real God in action.
I have personally held on to this Bible verse during times of trouble. It has been my strength when a parent or child died. It was my strength through tornadic storms. It was my verse to protect my heart from a broken heart and to keep my mind together after the loss of a child.
In verse (8) eight the Apostle Paul is telling us to change our mindset if we want peace and what better man to teach and preach about peace than Paul who was chained and beaten and imprisoned. Verse (8) Finally, brothers and sisters,
Whatever is noble,
Whatever is right,
Whatever is pure,
Whatever is lovely,
Whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things,
9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Take your problems to the Lord in every situation and pray and tell him what you need him to take care of and thank him for all the previous things that he has saved you from or rescued you from and present it all to God. There’s nothing too big for him no mountain that he can’t move, no disease he can’t cure, no bank account that he can’t bless, or business that he can’t bless, or a door that he can’t open. My God can do all things!
Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Psalms 85:10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Romans 15:33 The God of peace be with you all. Amen.
1 Timothy 3:9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.
Acts 24:16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.
