The Apostle Paul is telling them in the past tense that some of you were once like this, but now through the grace of Jesus Christ that paid the price for our sins, you are no longer like this. He’s saying once you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior you changed. You shouldn’t be doing and acting the same as before you accepted Jesus Christ. Your bodies are now members of Christ himself. Christ cannot remain where there’s still sin. Christ is too Holy! To do these things would be the same as uniting Christ to a prostitute. Never! Again, Christ is too Holy!
The Apostle Paul was stern with them he told them how it is. It doesn’t matter if the world says it’s okay to do it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a nice person and do nice things. If you’re sexually immoral you will not see the kingdom of heaven. It doesn’t matter how many times you go to church, it doesn’t matter how many times you pray. God cannot be connected with unholiness. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We have to crucify our flesh. The desires of our flesh cannot control us or God will destroy the body and you risk eternal separation from God.
1 Corinthians 6:13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power, God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
Galatians 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:5 Thos who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
