Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.
Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
I want to emphasize the importance of being baptized. John the Baptist said repent and be baptized. There’s a reason he put these in order.
First: You are forgiven for your sins through repentance and accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Second: Baptism of water cleanse the conscience of your past sins. If you did things that crossed the borders of God’s rules that can bring you into judgment than you need to cleanse your conscience in the name of Jesus Christ. The conscience is a file that stores the memory of those detestable sins. But once the Holy Water hits it the conscience is clean and purified you’re given a fresh start. It’s like hitting the delete button on the computer of your brain. I believe by cleaning the conscience it frees you from repeating the same sins. It frees you from the feeling of that sin. It frees you from wanting to indulge in that sin because you can no longer remember what it felt like. It’s like if I’ve never done it so I don’t know what I’m missing. If you need complete deliverance from anything you need to clean the conscience to give you a fresh start.
Thirdly: I believe Peter is telling us if we sinned we need to clean our conscience by baptism of water so we can receive the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit cannot operate where there’s unholiness.
I will never forget when I was baptized in the Jordan river in Israel. As soon as I went under I came back up in speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit filled me so I finally had that freedom that I sought with all of my heart and soul. There were many of us that received both that day! What a day! The past was finally erased. I was set free!
Water Baptism frees your memory from:
2. Sexual sins, the memory of pleasure
3. Frees you from guilt
4. Purifies your mind
Personally, I would like to see deliverance baptisms in the church. I think this would really change people and the world around us!
