Acts 13:10 “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?
Trick or Treat
Jezebel was so evil that she left a curse on all of her descendants including her husband.
So don’t think for a second if you condone evil behavior that you won’t answer for it. If you knew it was wrong and did nothing about it, you are just as guilty as the one that committed the crime. Ahab was cursed because he went along with her. Ahab also ordered the death of all of God’s prophets including Elijah.
1 Kings 19:1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” 3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said. “Get up and eat.” 6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night.
Elijah was so afraid of the she-devil known as Jezebel that he hid himself in a cave. Elijah had been pushed beyond his limits. He couldn’t take anymore. She wore him out always having to stay a step ahead of her evil tricks and traps. How many times in life has the nemesis attacked you and you fell prey to her tricks? The devil will send someone in your life to trick you up. He will station that man, woman or child at your workplace and even your home to try to stop the great calling that God has on your life. You have to be careful who you let into your life. Or you could find yourself in the same situation as Elijah running for your life. Now Jezebel was no friend or relative of Elijah she had been placed at the same time in history as him to destroy Gods plans. Jezebel was much like the ISIS we have today that wants to kill all Christians to make more room for their god.
1 Kings 19:
And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here Elijah?” 10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too,” 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
16 The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Mehollah to succeed you as prophet. 17 Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel-all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.
Trick or Treat
Now Jezebel did even more evil. She stole a vineyard that was close to the palace and had the man falsely accused and stoned to death.
1 Kings 21:1 sometime later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel, close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 2 Ahab king of Samaria. 2 Ahab said to Naboth, Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth. 3 But Naboth replied, The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors. 4 So Ahab went home sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors. He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat. 5 His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, why are you so sullen? Why won’t you eat? 6 He answered her. Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place. But he said I will not give you my vineyard. 7 Jezebel his wife said. Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. 6 So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name. placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him.
10 But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them bring charges that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.
How do you know when you have a Jezebel in your life? You know when you constantly have to watch your back or lock up everything you own to keep it safe, or you have to always stay one step ahead to not get caught in the trickery or caught up in the drama. Jezebel seems to love to create drama and may even be a drama queen.
When your enemies get in the way and you can’t take anymore, God sends help! Your fight isn’t just yours. Your fight belongs to God.
When Elijah had all he could take God ended his mission and handed it to another guy who could take it to the next level. Sometimes we are the forerunner preparing the way for the next one to step in and take over. The man of God that would take Elijah’s place was Elisha he would succeed him as prophet. And Jehu would take King Ahab’s place. Before God takes you from one position to another, he has someone in place to reposition to take your place.
Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Trick or Treat?
The Lord saw all the evil deeds of Jezebel and ordered her destruction.
1 Kings 21:23 “And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: “Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.”
2 Kings 9:33 Throw her down! Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses trampled her underfoot. 34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. Take care of the cursed woman, he said, and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter. 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet, and her hands. They went back and told Jehu, who said, This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through the servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.37 Jezebels body will be like dung on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say This is Jezebel.
She was the devil’s evil crooked woman.
No ordinary human.
Her family cursed by this evil woman.
Doomed to hell’s permanent booking.
She left the pot stirred and cooking.
Jezebel’s Character
She was a mass murderer of God’s people –psychopath
She was a liar.
She worshipped other gods.
She had no conscience.
She was a thief that took whatever she wanted with false accusations.
She stole inheritances.
The thief of an inheritance not only steals from that person at the time but all of those descendants that it would’ve been passed down to. It’s a continuing sin that keeps taking away.
